When I was a cocky 20 year old waterpolo player I congratulated my coach on his 35th birthday and cheekily reminded him he was halfway to 70.

When I hit 60 last year, the overwhelming sensation was that I had finally ‘arrived’. I felt serene and my many imperfections and mistakes no longer seemed to be failures, they were simply the character cards I had been dealt in the great poker game of life.

Instead of the usual striving for ‘what could be’ a calm acceptance of ‘what is’ settled upon me and I began to look at problems and challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. I still work hard to bring solutions to everyone around me, whether it be real estate needs or personal crisis, but it feels different. It feels good and I am grateful.

As I settle into my 61st year, I am looking forward to the pages turning, to new adventures and opportunities unfolding. I truly look forward to using my ‘gifts’ to help others along the road.

It turns out, getting ‘old’ is much better than I thought it would be; I highly recommend it! 😊
